If you have a Visa® Debit Card, you have the option to make an informed decision on whether overdraft services are right for you.
Courtesy Pay is a service that protects your checking accounts. The service may be used to cover your eligible items when your available balance is insufficient. You should use your checking account responsibly and not intentionally overdraw your account; however, we realize that financial shortfalls happen. We offer overdraft protection services to ensure eligible items are paid. Courtesy Pay is not a loan and is not subject to interest charges or late fees; however, items paid are subject to fees. The overdraft service is provided to members in anticipation that the member will be making a deposit immediately to bring the account to a positive balance.
We offer other ways of covering your overdrafts that may be less expensive.
- Link your checking to a savings account. You may have up to six overdraft transfers in a month for free, and any additional transfers will incur a $1 fee per transfer.
- You may be eligible for an overdraft line of credit line of credit, subject to approval.
Members with transfers from their savings and line of credit will continue to have the option of Courtesy Pay no matter the opt-in decision they make on overdraft coverage. Visa® Debit Card point of sale and signature-based transactions will only be eligible for Courtesy Pay if you opt-in (subject to CTFCU’s overdraft service policy). CTFCU’s current NSF per item fee of $35 will be charged to your account for each NSF transaction, whether paid or returned.
Carolinas Telco FCU may pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee authorization and payment of a transaction.
We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:
- Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
- Automatic bill payments
We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):
- ATM transactions
- Everyday debit card transactions
If Carolinas Telco FCU does not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.
If you want Carolinas Telco Federal Credit Union to authorize and pay overdrafts on everyday debit card transactions, you must Opt-In. Opting in means that you may overdraw your account using your debit card and are willing to accept any penalties for fees associated with those events. Opting out means that your debit card will be declined if you have insufficient funds to cover a transaction.
